What languages ended up being combined to create modern day Arabic, aka the Arabic of the Qur'an?

Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Amharic and the various languages in Ethiopia come from Proto-Arabic. I'm looking for the combination of languages that gave way to it, and it's writing.

You must have heard otherwise. The languages most closely related to Arabic (excluding dialects) are Hebrew, Aramaic/Syriac, and Maltese. The last of these is considered by most linguists to be a separate language from Arabic.

Coptic shares alot of its lexicon with modern Semitic languages.

At any rate, I'm not exactly sure how else you want your question answered.

No. Proto-Arabic gave way to other languages. Classical Arabic and MSA is not one of them.

You could have a look at

and look through the parts you need to find the info you are looking for.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
