It is hard to say what L.A. businesses or business people might be investing in anything at any given moment. Crowd sourced funding is just like any other type of investment in that people are going to invest either where they have the most interest or where there is the most benefit for them. Hopefully, this results in investments being made where they do the most good and also benefit others.
There are currently two main microgiving sites on the web that support projects by aspiring artists, writers, and people in technology. Kickstarter is a rapidly-growing crowd source funding community that is based in New York. Microgiving.com has been on the web for a little bit longer, but is similar in nature. The company is based out of Florida.
Hope Mongers is another microgiving site that raises funds for humanitarian efforts around the world. Proceeds are given directly to charitable organizations.
