In order to answer your question we need to understand that for modern ways of thinking, the teaching of History should include as much concrete detail as possible without using anecdotal evidence. However, this manner of thinking about the teaching of History only came into being few centuries ago. For medieval Historians dedicated to the teaching and commentary of historic events there were no commonly recognized professional teaching methods. In their work they often used a form of study and delivery of information based on the conventions and styles used by their predecessors. For educated men of that era this meant a reliance on the classical writers and chroniclers of their own past.
