Mike Martz has always been able to put points on the board when running an offense. I do not see that to be any different in Chicago. Jay Cutler has tremendous talent and the signing of Chester Taylor will help by giving the Bears two capable running backs that can also catch the ball out of the backfield.

On the flip side, Martz has had trouble in the NFL by not protecting the quarterback well. He sends so many players out that he often leaves his quarterback vulnerable. If Jay Cutler gets hurt, the Bears offense will struggle. Mike Martz also seems to put more strain on the defense as his offenses are prone to turn the ball over more.

In Conclusion, I see the Chicago Bears offense scoring more points but I do not see the Bears winning many more games because of it.

Mike Martz is a truly interesting character. He’s certainly well known as an offensive genius, but at the same time, he has had some real struggles since he was knocked off the top of the mountain when he was with the St. Louis Rams. When he was with both the Detroit Lions and the San Francsico 49ers he led what seemed to be a circus of ineffectual offense and mismanagement.

With the Chicago Bears, Martz certainly has the tools to put together a very good offense. Jay Cutler is not as bad as his season was a year ago, in my opinion and with some upgrades at other positions on the offensive side of the ball the Bears could be very formidable. Cutler is the kind of quarterback, who seems like he could operate very well in the Mike Martz system, but the Bears still don’t have the best wide receiver corps in the NFL and that could be a problem. One thing that is consistent is that when things start going downhill with Martz, they go down quickly.

WOW - I lived through the Mike Martz stuff here in Detroit. I would not wish him on anyone, including my worst enemy. The man is arrogant and always challenges the head coach’s authority. He has an extremely tough playbook that is all based on timing. That is the reason his team’s quarterbacks always throw lots of interceptions and wind up getting sacked (leading the league). His schemes are able to put points on the board but also result in plenty of turnovers. In his system, the quarterback is nothing but a robot, who throws to a spot on the field. If the ball is intercepted, then he feels it was the receivers fault even if his scheming was disrupted. The National Football League has figured him out. They know if they can disrupt the timing, the play will fail. When in Detroit, Martz said he would love to coach Jay Cutler, so I guess we will see. Jay will no longer be able to gunsling, as he will face the wrath of Martz. This could be a marriage made in hell, or if both are willing to compromise, a great plus for the Chicago Bears.

Mike Martz has shown his offensive scheme can put a lot of points on the board. But I questions the intricacies of it being that recently Jay Cutler reportedly was in contact with Kurt Warner about the ins and outs of the offensive, although he denies that he feels the offensive is complicated. Martz seems to have a very timing oriented attack, where the quarterback and receivers must be on the same page at all times. I know there are some patterns where the quarterback must just throw to a spot and trust that his receiver will be there when the ball arrives. That works beautifully when executed just perfectly, but there is a great risk of interceptions with this kind of offense too. So will the Bears score a lot of points or turn the ball over a lot? Probably both, which leads me to believe there will be many games where a great offensive play will win a game but a turnover will lose some games as well.
