What is your success rate on using $500 Wal-Mart gift card promotional offer?

I recently completed a promotional offer for a free 500 dollar Wal-Mart gift card. I'm wondering if other people here have attempted or completed similar offers, and what their success rate has been. Is this the kind of thing that people do a lot, or is there generally such a skepticism about them that most people don't try them?

I'm just interested in getting people's ideas with these kinds of offers?

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I can’t say that I’ve seen the promotional offer from Wal-Mart, but I have seen a number of retailers offering a “chance to win” some amount of money if I fill out a survey about the service that I received. It seems like there are actually two camps here – some retailers offer a small chance to win big and others offer a small, but definite savings on a future purchase. Around me, Panera Bread, Einstein’s Bagels, Home Depot and others offer the “chance to win big” approach and Dunkin’ Donuts, Panda Express, Outback Steakhouse and some others offer the small, but definite coupon.

On a rare occasion, I will actually go online and fill out the survey for the chance to win big (note: I’m yet to win), but most of the time, I just throw away the receipt. I just plainly assume that no one wins these or that it is so rare that it isn’t worth my time.

In the instances where there is a small but definite savings I often to fill out the survey. Even though it may not amount to much, the fact that I know I will get something makes it worth my time to fill it out.

You said that you already completed a promotional offer for the $500.00 card. Did you have to buy other things or give a credit card number or your bank information? Because if you did, this may be a scam.

Some of these promotions have in very very tiny print, "Participation required." Then when you check out the participation requirements, you have to complete a number of offers. There are different levels of categories, (like gold, silver, and bronze offers) and you have to complete a specific number of offers per category. These can be very pricey.

There are other Walmart scams that have been going on for a number of years. These scams usually state that for a minimal price of $3.95 to pay for postage and handling, you are eligible to receive a $500.00 Walmart card. The scammers ask for credit cards numbers or your bank account information. They take money directly out of your bank account and then use your account for other purchases until someone figures out what is happening. Surprisingly, even with the number of warnings issued against falling for these ruses, many people, convinced that these promotions are on the up and up, will provide their account number and get totally ripped off.

My advice to you is to ignore most of these offers. "Money for Nothing" only works for "Dire Straits"!
