Well neither of them are high points in World history. I am not sure that we completely understood how devastating the atom bomb could be. After all they were subjecting our own soldiers to atom bomb tests. But the war at that time had no end in sight and many more people would have died on both sides, the goal of this attack was to end the war... and it did. But the Japanese clearly knew that the United States was not in the war yet and that it was 0 dark thirty on a Sunday morning. And because they were trying to protect the secrecy of their attack they were not allowing their representatives in DC to get help translating their message about the attack they were planning on us. And because of that, the declaration to our government came after the attack had already begun. Many of our men died while still sleeping on a Sunday morning.

After being a long time resident of Hiroshima, I have met many people with different views on this. But I think anyone who has read the survivors tales and personally visited the museum in Peace Park, has to say that the effect of the bomb was horrific and not something anyone, anywhere for whatever reason- should have to experience.

When we interviewed the director of UNITAR, the UN office right next to Peace park, Azimi, she reported how simply seeing the peace park outside their window helps people with disagreements from the Asian regions find some negotiating grounds.

I am always in shock when I meet Japanese people who grew up in families affected by the bombing who still say there was no other choice than to use the bomb in their minds. They do not believe the Japanese government would have surrendered in any other case.

It is a complex issue for sure.

Pearl Harbor was what got the US started in the war. So its an unfortunate even that occurred but good did come of it. This is because we ended up dropping the atomic bombs which i think ended the war. The second bomb maybe was unnecessary.

Im not sure if those places we dropped the bomb were military cities, but if they were not then that is not okay. (awkward sentence). If they were military cities then there is some justification, but the fact that innocent lives were lost was a tragedy.

Also, the napalm bombs that we previously used in my opinion were much harsher and killed more people in the end. The effects of radiation are incredibly horrible and we cant forget about that.

So all in all i believe it ended the war which was a great thing, and it kept Hitler from world domination, which is the best thing. Its just unfortunate that innocent lives were lost in Pearl Harbor and the two atomic bombs (and in any other situation).
