What is your idea of the perfect weekend adventure?

I really enjoy taking short, weekend trips. Sometimes, I just go some place locally and find a way to turn it into an adventure. Other times, I may actually travel and take a mini-vacation. Two of my favorite things to do are go on hikes in places that I have never been and hunt for treasures in antique shops. I think I may be running out of ideas, and I am looking for something fun to do for the weekend. I am not necessarily looking for suggestions as much as I want to know what other people would consider the ideal "weekend adventure." What is your perfect weekend getaway? It could be something local or a short trip.

I love to go exploring for great restaurants so to me weekend road trip to a city that I have never been to with the plan to be having the most fun possible in this new city eating at a new restaurant for every meal and filling the time between meals with whatever local intrigue that city had to offer... leave the between meal time up in the air for discoveries. That sounds like a perfect weekend getaway if I am with the right company.

So I live in southern New Hampshire and a reasonable city that I have never visited to go "drive, eat, discover, and stay" exploring for great food and fun in would be Burlington, Vermont.

Driving to the city from my house would be about a 3 hour ride by car so that sounds about perfect for "getting away" from the humdrums of my home city and Burlington is a large and intriguing enough city that I am sure 6 to 10 meals could be had at some of that city's best dining establishments and the between meal time could be spent exploring Burlington's interesting landmarks and attractions while the night or hopefully nights could be spent in luxurious bed and breakfast accommodations.

Sounds like good times to me :)

I've been on Church street during a zombie walk. Its pretty cool! If you arent expecting it, it will give you quite a scare. Some of these folks put a lot into their costume and makeup...its ultra-realistic and spooky.

My idea of the perfect weekend adventure involves nature activities that are fun, easy to plan, economical, and healthy. The fall season is perfect for small watercraft such s canoe or kayak. The key hear is to utilize local resources such as local lakes or rivers. If you are just trying to make a day of it, there is no need to travel 2+ hours with a boat on your roof. A lot of rivers and larger bodies of water have boathouses with active canoe rentals. If you own your own canoe or have access to one, they are relatively easy to transport locally. For example, i took my small kayak to a pond less than 5 minutes from my house. It was a wonderful feeling to be out on the open water just exploring, maybing casting a fishing line once and a whie and just chilling. The key to this adventure is relaxation and deep breaths. If you are looking for something a little more exhilarating, find somewhere with a little current. You can challenge yourself and maybeget a workout out of the deal. A nice sunrise or sunset on the water is soup for the soul and cannot be beat!

Give it a shot!

I'd like to attend King Richard's Faire in Massachussets, dressed in costume of course. I think it would be fun to sample the food and experience the festivities.

I enjoy learning about period culture, the music, and the food. I like watching people as they create and exhibit their crafts and talents. It's fun to get away and live in a bit of whimsy & fantasy from time to time.

For us old folks, flying to Kauai or the Big Island is fun. We could visit Waimea Canyon or Kilauea Volcano, have an incredible time kayaking or fleeing a shark, eat dinner at some new local place and then, exhausted by the day's events, crash out at 9:00pm. (Actually, I usually manage to stay awake until at least 11:00.)
