What is your idea about my home country, Finland?

We are known for 'Sauna, sisu and Sibelius' but what do you know / think about us as people or the country as a whole?
(Sisu means sort of 'guts' but much more, we go through thick and thin and grey stone. Sibelius was a Finnish composer. Sauna you know, I hope? :-)

I have a stamp in my passport from Santa Claus Village (really quite a fun side trip). And we have you Finns to thank for Nokia and the world's largest cruise ship.

Here in the States, we have white-tailed deer running all over the place - it was different seeing herds of reindeer instead. ... and you've got great ice cream! And impressive castles - both "regular" and made out of snow.

Beauty. The country itself has a kind of extreme beauty of its own. I also have a few friends of Finnish ancestry, and they're also beautiful. So that's my initial impression.

Intelligent. It seems to be a very balanced country in many ways. You never hear about the riots in Finland, or the military coups, because they just don't happen. What we hear about is innovation, cooperation and ideas. And one of my Finnish friends is a math professor--a gorgeous math professor.

And delicious. One of my friends has made me pulla and Rönttönen. Cloudberries and all the different berries I love. And I now make viili in my kitchen. It's fun to eat and my 6-year-old loves it! I've had salmiakki. It's addictive.

I suppose this is a silly tourist view - but I found Finland, pristine, clean, hauntingly beautiful. I was there in the summer, so the sun set at midnight and rose again at 2am. As just a visitor I didn't concern myself with any possible political problems

Finland seems like the forgotten Scandinavian country. We all know it's up there somewhere, but it's kind of a mystery. I know the language is sorta sing-songy. I think Swedes, Norwegins and Danes can understand each other, but no one understands Finninsh. Finland is in need of some great marketing!

To be honest, the only thing I know about Finland is that your president looks like Conan O'Brien!!!

Hi. I have never had the opportunity to visit your lovely Country, but have met many wonderful people from Finland. As I live in Croatia, we have many tourists from all over the world, and my sons have a Restaurant in Dalmatia, a region in Croatia. Many guests from your country visit Croatia, and I have had the pleasure of making their acquaintance many times. We have a special friend, who loves good food and company and we have tried many special dishes from your country. I would love to visit Finland one day, and I am sure, you are very proud of your birth place, and I am sure you have a lot to share with us here, on Mahalo! Welcome, hope to see more of you around here!

Mika Häkkinen, Kimi Räikkönen, Keke Rosberg, Mika Salo, Leo Kinnunen, Heikki Kovalainen, Mikko Kozarowitzky, JJ Lehto and a beautiful (albeit fairly cold) country.

Personally, I love Helsinki. I used to go for work a few times per year and i have to admit that the first couple times, I didn't get the people--thought they were a bit gruff. Then I started getting to know them personally and it made a huge difference. Few places know how to party better than Helsinki. Looking forward to exploring the northern part of the country soon.

My favorite hotel, and one of my favorite in the world is the Hoptel Kamp:

Amazing service, beautiful interiors and awesome sauna!
