What is your favourite Hiking destination in the world?

Tip for best answer: M$1.12
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I have done a lot of hiking in my time, but I would have to have to say that the best hiking I ever did was on the big Island of Hawaii and the Island of Kauai.

Hiking the Na Pali Coast of Kauai was breathtaking. The shear drop offs along the trail make it a 9 out of 10 from the Audubon Society on their scale of easy to hard.

I also enjoyed the shorter hike on the Kilauea Iki Trail on the big Island of Hawaii. You walk through a lush tropical scenery and suddenly it opens up into a crater that makes you feel like you're walking on mars.

I was also able to do some beautiful hikes in the Rocky Mountains when I lived in Colorado, but I would usually get a headache if I did any hiking over 9,000 feet. I did hike the Maroon Bells near Aspen... but nothing really compares to the lush tropical scenery of the Hawaiian Islands.

although i have many personal favorites in Colorado, long hikes i've taken in Canyonlands National Park (Utah) and the west coast of Vancouver Island (British Columbia, Canada) have been the two that it would most like to repeat

i've done several Canyonlands hikes, but a hike around Upheaval Dome and then both up into the crater and then down Upheaval Valley to the Green river was the most memorable; there are nice photos of the basic Syncline Loop here:

and this site mentions the two options i added -- the hike into the crater and the trail to the river:

on Vancouver Island, i slept on the beach under a huge driftwood log (i had no idea at the time that the area has the highest density of black bear in the world), then hiked northwest about 11 miles along Long Beach in Pacific Rim National Park -- more or less the middle third of the trail from Ucluelet to Tofino on this map:

http://www.vancouverisland.com/Maps/?id=43

i feel sure there are many other hikes that i would enjoy in both places

The Presidential mountains in Vermont and New Hampshire. If you have the time you can go into the woods in Vermont and hike the trail through to New Hampshire and over Mt. Washington. I have done this before and it is about a two week hike and you just pack it in. At the end of the trip we would make an igloo out of limbs and cover it with plastic from our packs. We would then put sleeping bags over that and put rocks and a fire in the center. We would have a sauna in the woods next to an ice cold stream to jump in after you sweated all the dirt out. Then back to civilization.
