M$My favorite big dog is the Labrador Retriever. They are such sweet dogs. I had one that lived to be fourteen years old and she was the epitome of loyalty. There was no day that went by that my dog didn't make things brighter in my life. She was playful even into old age and when she got too sick to go on, she was graceful even in death. When I had to have her put to sleep, it was like she had this look on her face to tell me it was okay and that she was ready to go. She was such a good dog and I have known other Labs that were like that, too.
My favorite small dog and the kind I have now, is the dachshund. I have two dachshunds now and grew up with one as well. Their temperament can be tricky - some can be mean. The two I have now are far from mean. One of my dachshunds is a mini - she is only eleven pounds, but she has a heart that far outweighs her. She is so loyal and loving that is would break my heart if she wasn't in my life anymore. My male dachshund is a full size dog - he is about 22 pounds. He has been struck by the bane of dachshunds - disk disease. Because of their low and long bodied, they are prone to back problems. Some never recover and lose feeling and movement in their hind end. We were lucky - he had surgery and walked out of the veterinary hospital. He shows signs of soreness at times, but he is still moving well and at eleven years old, he is very playful.
Anyway - that is my take on favorite breeds of dogs. :)
