What is your favorite TV show ending?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Roseanne was a good show. A show most of us could relate to. I remember watching Roseanne's final season where she won millions and was living the high life. But, the final episode, actually in the final minutes, Roseanne is standing in her beautifully remodeled kitchen deep in thought and POOF, she is sitting on her old couch missing Dan. The lottery win was all a dream and Dan had died the previous season. Never expected an ending like that one, I enjoyed it very much.

Let’s not forget Johnny Carson’s last show! Now that was history.

Oh by far it's:

Mash Goodbye, Farewell, Amen. Of course they can't leave even a clip of it online because somebody might actually make 2 cents and Hollywood wouldn't get it's cut so only the commercial for the final episode is around.

Also one people probably forget is Northern Exposure's Our Town, I mean come on how can you bear a Moose walking down main street for an ending?

And yes the The Sopranos Final Scene has to be the ultimate in oh you can't just stop the scene, o but yes we can.

I did not know that willrusk, wow. Even more wow if they computed that by the viewing public considering the number of people watching today vs. 26 years ago. And oh geeze was it really that long ago... Guess I need to convert my VHS copy of it to Digital if those tapes will still play.

The M.A.S.H. finale is my choice as well. Not only is it one of the more memorable pieces of television, it also set a viewing record that stood for 27 years. http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_14358652

I haven't come close to witnessing the ending to every show that ever aired but of those that I have I would pick M.A.S.H. Great show, great finale.

MASH will no doubt be in the history books for a long time. It was indeed an excellent show and an excellent ending. It would take quite the show to bump them out of the Number 1 spot in the ratings for all time best ending.

The final episode of "Newhart" was the best finale of any TV series. After 8 seasons, the way it ended was classic. The final scene starts at 7:27 into the video clip below.

Watching the final episode of Newhart years ago and rewatching it several times over the years (via VHS and YouTube)

The UK version of ''The Office'' did a 90-minute finale (broken into 2 45-minute episodes) that wrapped up the series beautifully. The so-called "Christmas Special" was just as wrenchingly, embarrassingly hilarious as the rest of the series, but the conclusion is surprisingly uplifting considering how cruel and caustic Ricky Gervais' humor had been over the course of 2 previous seasons.

The thing is, though I'm a fan, the US version of ''The Office'' will never really be able to hit the heights of this finale, because they've basically resolved all the plotlines that the UK Christmas Special tied up. Jim and Pam are married and blissfully happy, Michael has been in love several times now, and so forth.

I'll leave you with one of the great moments from the final ''Office'' episodes - David Brent's self-financed music video for his cover of "If You Don't Know Me By Now."

The final scene in Blackadder.
I'd been watching every series of Blackadder since I was 11 and watched this final scene some 7-8 years later and may have indeed shed a tear.

I think "The OC" had a great ending that managed to tie up all the loose knots and at the same time it managed to tie the story back to the beginning of the beginning of the show.

Another great ending was Joss Whedons "Angel", watching our group of heroes charge the forces of evil one last time.

The West Wing's finale. I could not find a clip on youtube but the very ending of the show former President Bartlet is being flown home on Air Force One and he opens a gift from the daughter of his deceased Best friend and Chief of Staff Leo McGary. Inside is a napkin that says "Bartlet for America". It was the napkin from the night Leo convinced Jed Bartlet to run for President. During the 4th season, I believe, President Bartlet had given that napkin to Leo as an inspiration and thanks for convincing him to run for President. It was an amazing coming of full circle moment for the show and only the long standing fans really knew the significance. Still makes me tear up.

'The Shield' series finale delivered everything fans could've hoped for. It didn't end with a sudden, unsatisfying blackout like The Sopranos, but it also didn't finish everyone's story like Six Feet Under. The Shield played out like a Shakespearean tragedy. It was about men who lived life in the gray area, but made black and white decisions, worked at all cost to find any alternative to owning up to their misdeeds and above all placed their own interests above everyone else’s.

Also, the Finale for 'The Wire' was pretty great as well, making it possibly one of the greatest series of all-time.

The Sopranos
The finale of the show was waited by many people. The creator, David Chase, tantalizes the viewers who expect Tony Sopranos to end up tragically. Some suspicious guys enter the bar and look in the direction of the boss. However, suddenly the show stops as if there's a TV malfunction.
Many people didn't like it but I am among those who loved the finale. I myself was fooled thinking there's something wrong with the TV.
The fact that the movie is somehow inconclusive matches David Chase's philosophy that life is unpredicted and open.

My take on the ending was that we were simply seeing life through the eyes of Tony.
It shows one of teh tragedies of his life, that even taking his family out for dinner, he is still slightly paranoid about being gunned down and suspects everyone.

Yeah, it's probably not what you had in mind, but always when we watch Lost, my daughter and I wait for the "Bad Robot" clip from Bad Robot Productions, who make Lost. We say "Bad Wobot" (spelling intentional) in the same manner every time - drives the wife nuts!

Without question, I have several favorites of these, many of them have been mentioned here. One of them that wasn't is the final scene in the final episode of NYPD Blue, which changed a lot of things about television. I just love the idea that, after 12 years of looking in on the lives of these detectives, that in essence we are rising up into heaven ourselves.

There are other shows I still watch today with a great deal of interest, but I don't think personally (especially in this DVR age) I'll ever again experience an excitement for a show so strong that I always made sure to watch it when it would have first run episodes every Tuesday night at 10PM.

The finale of Scrubs was one of the best I've ever seen. It was really well done and both tied everything together as well as left it open-ended, with a future full of possibilities. That's why I am so mad they brought Scrubs back. They could have done a new show with just the interns and without JD or Elliot, but the fact that they are still involved really puts a damper on how great their ended really was.

A brave and spectacular ending to a show.
