See, I just have this ... thing for submarine movies, or those where a submarine plays a significant role. I guess you could say I like watching films about a bunch of sea men in tube (sorry, bad joke), but it's more than that, really. I like stories set within small spaces, that really focus on the characters. That isn't to say plot doesn't play a huge part, but many films I've seen that center around a submarine crew seem to be more heavily weighted on dialog and the interaction of characters in close quarters than other types of action films. And I find sub films to be more suspenseful than most.
It's a world completely foreign to me--being miles beneath the surface of the ocean. And other than the sub surfacing, there's really no way out of that big metal tube. To me, that adds to the suspense of these films. Those men (are there women on submarines these days?) are stuck down there, together, and there's no opening the hatch and slamming it behind them to get away from each other.
When it comes to "Hunt for Red October," specifically ... okay, at first it was all about Sean Connery. I'd seen just about every movie he'd made to that point (it was the accent, I guess), so off to the theater I went again. And then, as I watched the film, I was torn between Sean and my new discovery, Sam Neill. Later, while I was watching the movie for a third time after it came out on video, Sam really won me over, and it was like ... Sean who?
Seriously though, I love the story, the characters, the cinematography. I even like Alec Baldwin in this picture, and I'm not particularly a fan.
So, how many times have I seen this movie, you ask? Hm. At least four. So far.

M$This movie is a very unique thriller with twists and turns throughout the film. I have never seen another movie that pulls this off so well, and nobody I know saw the ending coming. If you haven't watched it, I strongly suggest that you do, especially if you like movies that get you thinking.
I can't say too much more about it without giving anything away but one of the phrases used to promote the film is "what do you get the man who has everything?"
This film was also directed by the same person who did another psychological thriller called Seven which was also very good.

M$Of course the acting by the cast is fantastic and Robert De Niro, and Al Pacino are legends. to have them both in one film is a a rare treat. The film was nominated for eleven Academy Awards and won six including best Picture
I particularly like the scope and ambition of the film. Clocking in at three hours twenty minutes , this is no ordinary Hollywood film , indeed it was made in the days before the ninety minute Hollywood beat formula had been set in stone. The film is challenging too and confusing because it cuts both back wards and forwards in time. This keeps the viewer thinking. In terms of major themes this film has it all murder, betrayal, revenge the fight between good and evil it might be argued that the Godfather part II does have many biblical parallels.
Ultimately this is a film that keeps on giving, the more you see it the more you get out of it. Many of the characters and events are based on real life. For example Hyman Roth is based on Jewish Mafia boss Meyer Lansky. The mobs accountant. Lansky actually phoned up actor Lee Strasburg, who played the part of Hyman Roth in the movie and congratulated him on his performance. The line ‘We mafia are bigger than US steel.’ was actually a direct Lansky quote.

I would say one of mine would be Back to the Future, which is great movie! More of my favorites would probably be the Garfield series, or Toy story 3. The reason I like Toy Story Is because I love Pixar and the movie is amazing! The reason i like the Garfield Cartoon Series is because they're all so funny if you understand them. Boy, how i love Garfield.
