From the moment I heard No Such Thing I knew that John Mayer was going to be huge. Now figure, I am 37 so it was not so much the words of the song that got me it was the overall songwriting and playing ability. He is a very under rated player and composer. It is still my favorite song by him.
That being said, I absolutely love his covers and Free Fallin' from the DVD Where the Light Is: Live in Los Angeles is unbelievable.
Lastly, you should check out the John Mayer Trio if you haven't. It is unlike anything you hear from him on the radio. My favorite Trio song is Wait Until Tomorrow originally done by Jimi Hendrix.
