What is your favorite 3rd party application for Twitter?

images:
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Depends on the operating system.

Windows would definitely have to be twhirl. It's free, lightweight, runs on Adobe Air, connects to Twitter as well as friendfeed, laconi.ca, etc., allows you to search through tweets, and includes built-in image/link posting using TwitPic/snurl/twurl/etc. I've been using it for about 4 or 5 months now and have really been enjoying it.

For the iPhone, the best client I had used was Twitterific. The reason I liked it so much was that it was simple - it didn't involve a lot of clutter no matter how many people you're following, it had simple text entry boxes, and still included picture posting and things like that.

I use twitter the most from my Nokia N95 now, which I use Fring for. Fring is available for any Symbian S60 mobile device (among other operating systems) and was meant to be an instant messenger but in their past few releases they've integrated Twitter, Facebook, Gmail and some more. So in addition to being able to tie in your MSN, ICQ, whatever IM account - you also get Twitter/Facebook/etc. updates in the form of an IM window within Fring. The only downside I've found to date is that you can't actually follow links by clicking on them - it does not hyperlink urls.

Definitely Thwirl http://www.twhirl.org/
- Nice, simple, and tiny interface
- connects to multiple Twitter, laconi.ca, Friendfeed and seesmic accounts
- shorten long URLs (using snurl, twurl or is.gd)
- cross-post twitter updates to Pownce and Jaiku
- post images to TwitPic

Twitterberry. It's simple, does what I need it to do, and to be honest, completely justifies the purchase of my Blackberry.

Aside from all the 3rd part apps already mentioned, I would like to mention Hahlo. It's a very neat Twitter web app for mobile Twittering. Even if you're using various Twitter clients on your iPhone or other mobile devices, Hahlo is the one you should keep in mind, too. There is some stuff that can only be done or can be done better with Hahlo, e.g. deleting tweets. It works on any device with a browser, but is made for mobile devices. Below is a screenshot of Hahlo on an iPhone.

I second hahlo. Aside from the features you mentioned, I love the 'In Reply To' button that tells you what particular tweet the other person is replying to. It's very convenient coz it runs in a mobile browser.

Currently I like TwitterGadget that enables Twitter in Gmail or iGoogle page! It's still early version, but it's very useful. See a demo on: http://www.twittergadget.com/

Tweetdeck is the recent one I've started to like on Mac. http://www.tweetdeck.com/
It allows many filtering and viewing options to your twitter stream. You should try it if you are an heavy twitter user.

For a simple and uncomplicated user, Twitterific (http://iconfactory.com/software/twitterrific) for Mac or Twhirl (http://www.twhirl.org/) for Windows should suffice.

Well there are many applications for twitter. It depends on what kind of online presense you have. If you browse a lot, there is an extension for firefox, if you are mobile there are applications for iphone etc.
My favourite would be the TwitterFox extension for firefox. Its easy, has all the tabs (recent, replies, messages) and sits as a small tiny icon in the firefox status bar. It also displays the number of new messages in the status bar.

My top fav one is definitely Twhirl - http://www.twhirl.org/
It has a nice interface, wrapping up all the functions in a small panel that won't take much space of your screen. The alerts sound is not as annoying as using TweetDeck. You can personalize a lot of features as you like it.

I just use the website for desktop tweeting, but I use Twitterrific for my iPod Touch. It does what I need a Twitter app to do, and the interface is easy to use. It is also free, which is a great advantage over other paid apps of similar quality.

A nice piece of software for browsing multiple twitter streams. Great if you like to watch multiple search results at the same time, while keeping an eye on your own stream, @replies and direct messages. Plus nice and easy to use interface.

And for your iPhone - tweetie, ($3 USD) has loads of useful features. Allows you to do practically anything you could with a desktop client - search, follow, unfollow, trends etc. Plus you can search for nearby tweeters using gps. Definitely worth the money.

On the desktop: Twitterrific. It's concise, and works well. The free version does have ads, but they're nonintrusive, and just show up in the timeline.

On the iPhone: Twinkle. Works well, does location-based tweets, overall good feature set.
