What is your electronics and accessories dream list?

Tip for best answer: M$6.14
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I have heard that LG 50 inch flat TV is one of the best looking flat-panel TVs of the year, so, everyone will like it. It is the dream TV, so, it could not produce too much heat.

Yes, I have also heard about Sony colors TV, Samsung four colors TV.
Among the products of “Sony and Samsung”, which one you prefer most.

I used to listen to shortwave a lot, but it has been many years. Is there anything to listen to, these days? In English?

My electronic "dream" is to find a good array of energy efficient appliances and equipment that would go hand in hand with roof-top solar collectors and other methods to make my household more efficient. For example, this photovoltaic concentrator will go safely on a rooftop, and, from the site:

>>>>"The Sunflower's Fresnel lens concentrates sunlight more than 1,000 times, enabling cheaper electricity than traditional photovoltaics, according to its maker. The self-powered, 200-watt system features trackers that shift with the sun's location, as well as a controller and communications system. The low-slung Sunflower is built to withstand winds, and it doesn't need to penetrate a rooftop for installation."<<<<

http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/bto/20080805/Sunflower.jpg

For more on this device, visit "More solar power bang for the buck" at http://news.cnet.com/2300-11392_3-6199938.html

http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/ne/p/2007/SolFocus1_418x600.jpg

With a power supply in place, I would then shop accordingly for the appliances that would work in conjunction with the power supply available during the day versus the saved power available at night (a battery array is usually needed for this operation, and can be considered an environmental faux pas by some, but if they are recycled properly when they are exhausted, I think 12-volt battery banks and converters to use the power as AC are going to be the way these things work for now. I have a friend in the mountains of West Texas who manages to run their household largely on power collected from more traditional solar panels).

Underwriters Laboratories (you know, that "UL" tag on the cord of any electrical appliance you purchase in the U.S.) has a lot of information about these devices. http://www.ul.com/global/eng/pages/offerings/industries/energy/

Rechargeable devices, devices made of recycled materials, or of less toxic or non-toxic materials, all of these are on my list. But if I were given a grant to upgrade the house and equipment here, I would start with the power supply. I live in Texas where we have lots of sunshine, but the remarkable thing is that one of the countries that uses this kind of equipment most completely isn't famous for its sunshine: Germany. It isn't just southern states and equatorial countries that can benefit from solar power. Many areas can. Here is information about the German plan: http://spie.org/x17246.xml?ArticleID=x17246

http://spie.org/images/Graphics/Newsroom/Imported/Harrissolar1007_Fig1.jpg

I hope this is considered a serious answer. Taking into account the shopping trend in following fashion, in desiring to have the newest, the fastest, the slimmest or lightest or largest memory in devices, this isn't the way to fix anything. So I crave the energy technology, not the passing array of bells and whistles.

Energy Innovations is the source of these devices. I've never heard of them before, but I'll keep my eye on their company. Maybe I won't have to win the lotto to get a system like this one day. http://www.energyinnovations.com/

There is a group called One Block off the Grid (http://1bog.org/) that I follow on Twitter. I heard an interview with someone from that group on an environmental discussion on National Public Radio (U.S.). http://twitter.com/1bog You should be able to poke around their site and find a lot of information about the California projects, because I think that's where they started. They negotiate to get a whole bunch of neighbors in one area to all do solar at the same time, bringing the entire group considerable savings as far as materials and labor, with the concentration of projects.

Thanks for the list of cool solar power systems.

Solar popularity goes in cycles. I am interested in Bloom Energy and natural gas energy generation, right now. However, a couple of years ago, solar power roofs for Wal-Mart and Sony were captured peoples attention. I believe when solar nano technology brings costs down to 5 cents a kilowatt than solar will become important. Is the solar trend and watt production output curve, upward?

How effective has the "Million roof" solar project in California been? Are people moving to solar in certain areas of the country?

The convergence of advanced gesture recognition, facial recognition, voice recognition and Wifi in this video game console will revolutionize video gaming, education, social networking.

While the iPhone 4 can only do video calling on Wifi, HTC Evo 4G can do so on 4G. The HTC also has a bigger screen and better video cameras.

Thanks!

I really like that HP Slate will have two cameras. If they're meant for video calling, the Slate will be like a giant smartphone.

HP Slate will run on WebOS, the OS of Palm, which HP recently bought.

Xbox 360 solely because of the add-on Kinect. Wii with MotionPlus and Playstation Move will follow the the controller in your hand, but Kinect will use your whole body as the controller. That means you can use real swords and baseball bats. You can also use it for videoconferencing with natural (other people) and artificial intelligence. I think it will be one of the biggest newsmakers this year. I think it will cut down childhood obesity rates and increase life expectancy rates. I have never owned a video game console in my life, but I think $350 for a Kinected Slim Xbox 360 is cheap.

I think there are touchscreen iMacs, but this 27" LED back lit iMac is not one of them.

One thing I forgot about HTC Evo 4G is that it has the capacity to establish video calls with other Android phones. Iphone 4 so far can only video call with other iPhone 4s.

Great List

I was surprise you chose the HP Slate. What advantages does the HP slate have over the Apple iPad?

What Operating system is installed on the HP Slate?

Why do you prefer the XBox 360 over the Sony Playstation?

Is the iMac 27, touch screen?

Something that's not been invented. To have a device I can hook up to my brain and write out my screenplay as I see it in my head. No typing involved, it just types or makes its own movie. Yeah, that would be my dream device.

Thought controlled machines will become more common. Bionics currently use thought control and artificial neural networks to move the arm. fMRI are mapping the brain activity and building simple models of how the brain works.

My electronics and accessories dream list is simple. I would love to have a system that manages the entire house, much like the electronic system of the future at Disney World. I would love to have a house where we could control lights, temperature, irrigation systems, and everything else simply with a central computer.

I would also like to have a very environmentally friendly home. If I could have a home that was literally off the utility grid, that would be perfect. I would like this because it would be a dream for each home to be able to satisfy it's own electricity, heating, and water usage on its own.

Next to that, maybe a really good reflex camera as I love taking pictures.
