Yahoo! Answers used to be Yahoo Q&Ais a community driven question and answer site that was launched by Yahoo on July 5, 2005.
It allows user to submit questions to be answered and answer questions asked by other users. The site will give members to earn points to encourage them to participate in asking and answering questions. Yahoo! Answers is available in different languages. This was created to replace Ask Yahoo! which used to be their Q&A platform that was discontinued last March 2006. Th is is the second most popular Q&A in the US after Answers.com according to comScore.
To be able to open an account on the site, a user needs a Yahoo ID but he/she can use any name as identification on Yahoo! Answers. A user can be represented by a picture from Yahoo! Avatars or an uploaded picture. If one is going to answer a question, a user can perform a Yahoo! or Wikipedia search for research.
The question are open to answers for four days but the asker can choose to close the question after a minimum of four hours or extend it for a period of up to eight days.

Yahoo Answers is similar to Mahalo Answers. Users ask a question (which topic ranges from personal questions to academic questions, etc) then another user can answer it. Other users in the community votes for a best answer in each question, so whichever answer gets the highest number of votes means it is the best answer. Pretty much the same as Mahalo Answers, right?
The maid difference is that in Mahalo, user can earn in each best answer he/she gets while in Yahoo Answers, points are given instead. In Yahoo Answers, a user gets points and levels up depending on his activity (i.e. votes your answer gets, best answers you get, logging in, etc). A user's level also limits the questions and answers a certain user must do. In Mahalo Answers, each user can earn and can claim his/her earnings (M$150 per withdraw) and will receive payment via Paypal. Each M$1 is equivalent to $.75 US dollars.
