What is wrong with my car?

When I go to start my car it clicks 10-15 times before starting. Thinking it may be a bad battery, I had the battery replaced and the problem still exists. Once the car turns over it runs fine, though the Check Engine light is on. The car is a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue if that helps. Thanks in advance!

You didn't tell us how many miles the car has, so I'm just guessing.

Slow start problem: Most likely the Starter Solenoid. Unfortunately, is inside Starter.
Solution: Replace Starter. http://answers.edmunds.com/question-Bad-solenoid-bad-starter-2000-Olds-Intrigue-31845.aspx

Possible solution: Battery cable connected to starter. Look for corrosion, possible loose connection. Lake of voltage could also cause engine light. Check battery terminals.

If thats not it, check the the Fuel Pump (would cause both issues)
See Solution #1.

Possible fix for Fuel Pump could be as simple as changing the Fuel Filter:
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where_is_the_fuel_filter_located_on_a_1999_Oldsmobile_Intrigue

I'd start out with the simple cheap things before you start dumping money into it.. Change the fuel filter, check the battery cables, check the cable connection at the starter.

I would say it is either the starter not kicking over right away or the starter solenoid. I would say if it is clicking then the problem is probably between from the solenoid to (and including) the starter. I would start then making sure all the wires are secure.

When my starter went out, that's what happened for a couple days before it just died. I know for sure when that "Check engine" light goes on you're not supposed to drive your car any further than to a mechanic. You could spend a LOT more money by waiting so go ASAP.

Here's my guess:

Distributor cap.

http://automechanics.wordpress.com/2008/09/13/car-maintenance-101-checking-your-rotor-and-distributor-cap/

Distributor caps don't last forever and the symptoms that you describe could be a result of a cracked or loose distributor cap.

The good news, if this is it... Distributor caps aren't all that expensive and are usually replaceable with only a little bit of time and trouble.

Maybe as simple as a starter problem or as complex as the engine. The easiest way to fix it before it gets worse is by taking it into a reputable mechanic shop.

I'm not great with vehicles, but it definitely seems to be a problem with the engine. If that's the case, you will most likely have to take it in for repairs. I cannot see the battery as being a problem.

I would also get your catalytic converter checked. It usually looks like a box that's part of the exhaust pipe(s). Just a week ago, mine was stolen. I had to try numerous times before the car started, and it made a loud sound.

Im not saying that the catalytic converter is missing or stolen like mine was. But there probably is something wrong with it. Either way, I encourage you to take the car in for service or at least get it checked out. That's the only way you will get a true and certain answer.

I hope I helped; have a great day!!!

Great neighborhood, actually. And you dont have to be a good thief. They probably just cut it off and ran with it. Buddawiggi I encourage you to STOP VOTING UNHELPFUL. Two can play at this game.

Engine is a great, though extremely broad, guess. The problem is not, however, with the catalytic converter. And if the questioner had wanted to pay to have a car checked out, they wouldn't have asked the question on here.

Wow. Your catalytic converter was stolen? Dude, that sucks. Not exactly cheap to replace... Bad neighborhood? or just good thieves?

And Chris if you have something to say, give your own answer.
