Vitiligo is a skin pigmentation disorder in which melanocytes in the skin are destroyed. Melanocytes are the cells that make skin pigment or color. Due to this, there are white patches that can be seen in the different parts of the body. These patches can also be observed on both the mucous membranes and the retina, the inner layer of the eyeball. The hair that grows on the skin afffected by vitiligo sometimes turns white.
