Be prepared to read Romeo and Juliet and possibly The Scarlet Letter. Another classic favorite to read in high school is To Kill a Mockingbird. Each of these books seem to rotate through high school English classes from year to year.
I read "To Kill a Mockingbird" back in the 1970's, and my daughter read it in High School in the new millennium. It is amazing how the same books go from generation to generation.
Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeare's tragedies. When I read it I had the pleasure of being able to travel to the local college where they were putting on the play of the same name. It was amazing to see the confusing old English words come to life. They made much more sense in person than in text.
"The Scarlet Letter" was also a classic novel that was forced upon me. I had a magnificent teacher and could avoid reading the book altogether because of how she taught her class. I got a great grade on all the papers thanks to her skills as a teacher.
One of my favorite reads, however, was "To Kill a Mockingbird". This book was full of suspense and old-school charm. You became the character in the book and could feel each step that she made toward her own realizations. It was made into a movie back in the good old days, with wonderful actors and a great director, to bring the imagery to life.
