racing through the mud, They are usually jacked up and have high performance engines that would make Nascar proud.
There are a few tactics that are frequently used during a mud event. Turning the tires side to side when the truck feels like it is about to get stuck will allow the front tires to grab some fresh material, hopefully. Rocking the truck in a back and forth motion will help to achieve some forward momentum. Keep the gas pedal at a steady pace, don't pulse the pedal as this will lead to the truck getting stuck.
Mud tracks come in many forms. Some are mud ruts side by side so that you can race your opponents. Sometimes your are just racing against the clock. Usually mud events are judged by distance, as in how far each truck makes it through the mud. These are usually the more drastic mud events.
The tailpipe of a vehicle is routed up above the mud level, hopefully. This cuts down on back pressure to the motor, giving the motor more horsepower. If the tailpipe gets clogged it can cause the motor to cut out.
Keeping the air intake system clean and free of debris is very important. That is why a lot of mudding trucks have high rise air intakes. It is best if the connections around the air cleaner housing be as airtight and watertight as possible. If even a little bit of debris matter gets in to the engine it can cause a lot of damage to the engine. Once the cylinder walls are scored by even a little debris it will cause oil consumption and loss of power.
