What is this subgenre of Jazz called? and who are the most influential artists in this subgenre?

I am looking, specifically, for this particular type of jazz - fast and very complicated solos.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

This seems like fast be-bop jazz. If you want to hear "fast and very complicated solos" and a bit more edge, you'll need to check out jazz fusion. If you like this clip in particular, I suggest you get a copy of the Chick Corea Akoustic Band album.

For some stuff with more edge, here's a nice primer on "fast and complicated" -

I would categorize this song as Hard Bop

You can find a list of Hard Bop musicians at Wikipedia Influential artists in this genre are

  • Miles Davis
  • Art Blakey

I quite like "post-bop sound", a term used by Andrew Male in his review of Duke's Sweet Honey Bee, originally released in 1966.

here is some more post-bop, hope you like it :)
