What is the warmest, most cost efficient bed covering?

I am going winter camping, but I'm not in the market to buy any of the new -40 high-tech gear. What is the warmest "old fashioned" blanket, that I could find in a place like a consignment store?
Tip for best answer: M$0.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You might be able to find a military wool blanket - they are a little scratchy BUT it will keep you warm, it's water resistant, and it probably wouldn't be hard to find at a second hand shop near a military post!

I quickly googled "military wool blanket" and found a site selling used blankets here.

These blankets are super durable and designed for outdoors camping!  I promise you will be warm w/ this!

I would suggest a wollen blanket. If you put a cover on them they can be the most comfortable one.

Wool will keep you warmest; you might try an army surplus store. Polar fleece is pretty warm, and softer than wool. Layering a soft fleece blanket under a wool one should keep you comfy-cozy!
