What is the treatment for Social Anxiety Disorder?

Tip for best answer: M$1.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

There are a variety of remedies or treatments for social anxiety disorder. There are different treatments based on what you are experiencing. I personally found the most effective treatments for social anxiety disorder are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and most effective is the Emotional Freedom Technique. You can learn more about these therapies from this site http://www.social-anxiety-solutions.com/social-anxiety-treatment.html and can start applying the technique that best fits you.

With any anxiety disorder you have a thought that starts to literally talk you into being nervous around people "they wont like me", "I will embarrass myself" etc-they use thought stopping which is a way of talking back to your inner thoughts to refute what they are saying and positively talk yourself up (it really works-trust me). They combine this with sometimes mild anti-anxiety meds that you stay on until you learn the thought stopping method and start to feel better along with exposure a little at a time to social situations until you feel more confident

I have suffered through this my entire life. SSRI's don't work for me, but that is about the best we have. A low dose of Effexor has vaguely helped, but Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is seriously the way to go. You will KNOW if you have a good therapist. If you don't like your therapist, get another one.
