What is the tipping etiquette on Mahalo?

When, Where, and how much - please.
Tip for best answer: M$2.40
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You know tipping etiquette is not something I have seen discussed here in the short history of Mahalo, but I guess there has to be a first.

As an Asker, add a tip to questions you think will need heavy research, again it's not mandatory but with a little incentive you are sure to get more top quality answers, at least more then if you didn't add a tip. If you don't add a tip, Mahalo throws 50c on the question for you, no worries.

As an Asker, add a tip to questions you want to see active, if you are just looking to build a great thread with great answers, the more you tip, the more activity it gets.. in theory, but I'd say that's been the case since day one here on Mahalo Answers.

If your question receives more then 1 top quality answer, after you choose best answer don't be afraid to give small tips to the runner-ups... Again there is no unwritten rule to do this, but some users do it.

If you read an interesting question or if you see a question that you feel needs a bigger bounty click "Interesting" and add even just a nickel, every little bit helps. Questions with more "interesting" votes get more face time on the Answers Front Page.

conclusion... There is no etiquette rules, but above are examples of HOW users have been tipping since day 1 here on Mahalo Answers.

Welcome, and enjoy the site

nice answer...

i'd just add that you can also tip anyone that you feel gave a great answer even if it is not your question... see that little sentence above my comment... "Tip jeffhoard for this answer"? you click it and tip. minimum is M$1. especially nice to do this for quality answers on low paying questions.

or just send someone a direct question with a tip on it to tip someone for your own reasons. you do this from their profile page.

=)

Well, if you mean tipping individual members you can give as low or as high as you want. Usually, one dollar is the average.

However, if you mean answer tips then you can tip as much as you have on your account or use your own paypal money. Again the average is $1. You receive the tip when your answer is chosen as the best one. The question is usually open for 3 days. After that the asker chooses the best answer or it's selected by voters in the undecided tab.

Mahalo doesn't have an official tipping etiquette. Basically, because it's really up to the tipper to do as he pleases. You can tip at any time and everywhere. As long as you see the tip member link. You learn as you go. :D

This is an excellent question, because I am new, and I also was curious how this work. I tried to tip someone for an 'interesting question' and apparently, only yellow belts and up can tip or vote for an interesting question.

I've received a tip from someone to welcome me to the community! That's awesome!

But I also was hoping some who had been around here a bit more would be willing to chime in with better answers.

Great question!

I'm so glad you asked this question. I joined up and few days ago and have been wondering the same thing.

If I had a yellow belt, I'd give you a tip for bringing up such an interesting and valid question!

Excellent Question.

@jeffhoard - Excellent Answer.

I was confused about this too. There are some that tip regularly and there are some that want to keep all of their M$ for themselves. My personal opinion is .. the more you give the more you will get in return.

I think it has been mentioned before, but when I receive an answer that has obviously taken a large amount of research and/or effort, that isn't the best answer. I feel obligated to tip.
