What is the temperament of a Belgian shepherd dog / tervueren?
Recently, I went with a friend of mine to adopt a dog for her mom at a dog shelter. After choosing her moms dog, I noticed that my friend was also interested in a little puppy in one of the kennels. It was a Belgian shepherd dog puppy and it was really cute. She wants to know of the breed’s temperament before taking it to her home? Does the dog get along with children?

Tervurens are very energetic and intelligent dogs and need to have some tasks or jobs to keep them occupied like herding, obedience, agility, flyball, tracking, or protection work. They are also commonly found as Search and Rescue dogs who finds persons that are missing and avalanche victims.
They are also loyal and forms strong bonds with their family while shy around strangers. They also make good watch dogs because they are observant and attentive to slightest changes in the environment.
Because Tervurens have high-maintenance level, they are not recommended for those first-time dog owners. The adult male are very masculine and females also have very feminine looks. They project an appearance of alertness and elegance. They are also a loyal and versatile breed. Owners said that they are usually charmed by their intelligence, trainability and their sense of humor.
Tervuren can also compete in dog agility trials, obedience, showmanship, flyball, tracking and herding events. They are sure to excel in these activities. Their herding instincts and trainability can be measure at noncompetitive herding tests.
