Well, I suppose that would depend on what was considered a strange pet? I had a pet grasshopper when I was about 9 years old. People can manage to have some very odd pets.
In the 1970's the pet rock was probably the strangest pet that someone would have, but now I've seen invisible dogs in the carnivals and fairs around my town.
I had a friend who had a pet tarantula and in the same house, he also had a pet rat. Other strange pets are sloths, and tigers. Sloths just because they are odd, and tigers because they are dangerous wild animals that have not had the wild bred out of them as did dogs and cats.
People who have problems with ants may choose to have an anteater as a pet. Pot belly pigs seem like an odd pet to me, but someone I used to know thinks that they are the greatest pets!
Much like anything else, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
