What is the strangest food you have eaten?

I really love sea cucumbers, but it's more acquired taste I guess. Durian is not too exotic food as a lot of people like it. My friend ate sea cucumber once and spat it out.

Rattlesnake Ice Cream

No, I'm not kidding.
It was not made with the meat of the snake. The snake was parboiled in cream to remove some of the gaminess, and the cream was recycled into ice cream, which also incorporated rattlesnake eggs. It was flavored with nutmeg and cinnamon, splash of vanilla. The tase was similar to most other home made ice creams, with a similar texture, the only thing odd about it in tasting was a slightly oily aftertaste.

but I think the aftertaste may have been more mental than anything.

For Filipinos and even Malays, 'balut' isn't really strange but still, there are number of people who can't eat it. I like them at times though. :)

Balut is a duck egg with nearly developed embryo. It is boiled and eaten with salt or sometimes vinegar with chili. The taste, well for me it tasted good. I just don't like it when the chick/duck inside is bigger than it should be. T.T

I was watching Fear Factor before where there's a challenge to eat balut. As expected, they find it weird and icky since they aren't Filipinos.

I've not quite gotten past the concept of what it is to be able to try one but my husband and kids have and thought it was ok.

Yea I know. T.T That's why most people eat it with eyes closed. Including me... Though I haven't eaten one yet for like a year or two already.

I have eaten squirrel and rabbit when I was young. I don't remember it being to bad. I tried chocolate covered ants at the county fair you just mostly tasted the chocolate. We don't really have a lot of strange foods around here.

Amybrowne is right about the deer meat it is very good when cooked properly.

Squirrel and rabbit are gross and after the first taste of both I will never eat it again but these foods are loved by some people. I love to eat gravy made with deer meat on buckwheat pancakes!

Man that is home cooking and what i was raised on and some people think deer meat is gross but it is awesome when it is cooked correctly.

Well, I love durian so much! It's abundant here in the Philippines. The strangest food that I had tasted was that when I was in high school. We were having a Regional Schools Press Conference for young journalists in Zamboanga City, Philippines. When we were on our last day there, we were served with a very strange dish. It looked like a flaked fish (like sardines) but it wasn't. It was orange in color. I didn't understand the taste that I really did spit it out. I didn't know the name but I don't wish I could taste it again. It was really weird. I am not choosy when it comes to food but I just couldn't take the smell and taste of it.

I have eaten sautéed grasshoppers. They are prepared with some onions, green peppers, salt and pepper and then sprinkled with some lime juice. You place the little critters on a corn tortilla with some salsa, incredibly good!

Yet, as good as it is, it's the sort of food which I would readily eat when it is prepared for me, but I could never bring myself to prepare on my own.
