The modern day 'kissing under the mistletoe' goes all the way back to Norse Mythology. A Norse goddess chose mistletoe to represent 'love' and the rest is history.
Both mistletoe and holly have deep pagan roots in history. Both were thought to contain magic and mistletoe was even used as a medicinal cure at times.
Mistletoe can be a great added decoration and a festivity in and of itself. I love to pick up a fresh sprig and wrap with a ribbon and hang over my main doorway. To me the holidays should be a time to spread love and good feelings towards the people around us and this plant is a great icebreaker!
