What is the saddest song you've ever heard?

With lyrics or not--what's the saddest song you've ever heard? Or pick one of each if you can't decide.

My choices:

Exit Music (for a film) by Radiohead

The other is the Theme from Schindler's List composed by John Williams, the violin played by Itzhak Perlman.

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

"Without You" by Harry Nilsson

This wouldn't have been my first choice if it hadn't been for the Bathtub Suicide Scene in the movie "Rules of Attraction," which I linked to below. This scene isn't for the faint of heart so don't watch if such things disturb you. The saddest thing about the song in that part of the movie was how it gradually faded as she died in the water.

If it wasn't for that scene, I would have picked "Memories of Green" by Vangelis, which was composed for the movie "Blade Runner." That song can easily make you cry just by listening to it alone.

Hey Justin... YouTube disabled the audio to that specific video. You still have about 20 minutes to edit your answer and find one with sound. (it's a good song!)

Either this:

...or this...

Really listen to the lyrics on each, what they're talking about.

Music is pure emotion for me. I grew up paying attention to soundtracks as much as garage bands.
There are so many composers that have created movingly sad music for movies... I wouldn't know where to begin. John Williams is a top pick for a composer. Good choice there!

One song sticks in my mind from my youth. The Smiths had a plethora of sad and glum music but one song stands out. Asleep was their saddest of the sad. I played that song for an entire summer after losing a close friend in a fire.

Asleep - by The Smiths

Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
I'm tired and I
I want to go to bed

Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
And then leave me alone
Don't try to wake me in the morning
'Cause I will be gone
Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I will feel so glad to go

Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
I don't want to wake up
On my own anymore

Sing to me
Sing to me
I don't want to wake up
On my own anymore

Don't feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I really want to go

There is another world
There is a better world
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well ...

Bye bye
Bye bye
Bye ...
