What is the process for tattooing the whites of the eyes?

I'm watching LockUp (yes it's a weekend thing) and I see that a couple of the inmates at one of the prisons have the whites of their eyes tattooed. I personally think it is kind of gross, but am curious how it's done. One of the guys said it can't be done with a typical tattooing needle. Anyone able to find some info on this? Anyone able to find how the pain is described of this process?

Thanks!

Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

You may say that it hurts to be beautiful, and so is in the eye of the beholder. I have seen a woman with his white eyes tattooed permanently into blue. I can't imagine the process to remove it due to it may cause a pain in your eyes.

The process of it by using a syringe, and it will take about forty injections to fill the whites of the eyes and turn it blue. This is called corneal tattooing. Generally, this process is done in patients that have had trauma to their eye and typically in someone's eye that is blind.

Tattooing the whites of your eye (the sclera) would be possible but not recommended on a fully sighted eye. And you may have the risk of infection with each injection. So, the good suggestion would be to use a custom fitted contact lens to gain the same effect.

Here is the process of tattooing the whites of the eyes:

Hope this may answer your question.

That's a little scary to me but it definitely looks cool. The problem is what happens when you're a grandfather or something? Could you get a real job with tattooed eyeballs? Hmmm.

It would be interesting to have an easier way to do it than use a syringe but like the guy above said, that's how they do it.
