After 21 years of military and authoritarian rule, Bangabandhu's party-Bangladesh Awami League led by his illustrious daughter Sheikh Hasina, swept hack to power through a very free and fair parliamentary election held under a Caretaker Government in June. 1996.
A fair and free election was held on 29th December, 2008. Everyone enjoyed their voting power in a festive atmosphere. This election is a milestone in the history of Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina is the current Prime Minister.
Sheikh Hasina's Awami League and former prime minister Khaleda Zia's the rival Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) are the major political parties.
