What is the PGA?
What does PGA stand for? When did the PGA begin? Where can I find historical information regarding the PGA?

The PGA stands for Professional Golfers Association and runs the main professional men's tours in the United States and North America. The PGA was part of the PGA of America until 1968 when it branched off to become it's own separate entity. PGA club professionals comprise most of the PGA of America. The PGA tour operates three tours, the PGA Tour, the top tour, then Nationwide Tour, which is a professional developmental tour and the Champions Tour for golfers 50 years of age or older. The tour organizes over 40 events every year but does not run any of the 4 major champsionships (The Masters, PGA Championship, US Open, British Open) or the Ryder Cup. Similarly, it has no involvement with the women's professional tour, the LPGA.
At the end of the season the PGA holds the annual qualifying tournament for those players outside the top 150 on the tour money list. The top 25 finishers at the qualifying tournament get their tour cards for the next year, while the next 75 earn a Nationwide Tour card.
