What is the origin of the hiphop phrase "no homo?"

I hear this in rap songs and on the radio station fairly often--what is the origin of the term "no homo?"
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Cam'ron popularized it, and now it has a life of its own.

It basically means "but I'm not gay", and typically follows a statement or action that fits the common stereotype of 'homosexual behavior' (which of course is a ludicrous notion to begin with). You could say that another primary source of its origin is the stigma against homosexuality in general. After all, if everyone thought being gay was no big deal, no one would ever feel the need to reassure anyone that they're not gay.

According to one website ( http://www.videosift.com/video/The-origin-of-No-Homo ), the first song it was used in was this one:

Phrase NOT coined by Cam'Ron, but by his young protege Juelz Santana.

Said to show that you aren't gay after saying something that sounded gay.

It's Spanish for "I am homeless".
