What is the name of that piano song that you play with your knuckles?

I know that it goes something like: F#, G#, A#, D#, D#, A#, G#, F#, D#.
What is the name of the song?
Who wrote the song?
When was it written?
Any other interesting information about the song.
Tip for best answer: M$2.25
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

Out of all the forums and groups that I visited in my quest to find some answers, I did scavenge some interesting tidbits.

Most people remember it as officially 'The Knuckle Song for Piano'.

If you ask a serious pianist about this, he'll just think you're talking about a Prokofiev sonata where the pianist smacks the keys hard with the left fist at a particularly dramatic part of the piece.

One person from another forum "dumdumdiddle" wrote out the notes:

F# G# A# (roll these), then play C# C#
F# G# A# (roll these), then play C# C#
F# G# A# (roll) C# D# C# A#

A# G# F# (roll the other way), then D# D#
A# G# F# D# D#
C# D D# F F# F# F#

The Mad Music Archive shows that "Barry and the Bookbinders" have a copyright on the Knuckle Song.

...but the copyright is dated 1997 and we all know the song is older.

Mike Fun stated from The Straight Dope:

I always thought it was called "I'm going to slam the lid down on your g*****n hands if you keep playing that" in F# pentatonic.

So I didn't find out who wrote it or when exactly it was written, but I do hope you find the video entertaining.

Enjoy!

I think it's usually called "The Flea Waltz" although it's technically not a waltz at all. The notes are all on the black keys and can be played by a rolling motion of the clenched hand. I'm sure it's not associated with any composer, but has been passed down from generation to generation by youngsters experimenting on the piano. There's something fascinating about those black keys when you're young.

well, i know a set of lyrics for it... not sure if they are the original, but they might be...

it's about a hot dog stand owner and a woman in love...

I know a weenie man,
He owns a weenie stand.
He se-ells everything
From hot dogs on down.

Someday I'll share his life
I'll be his weenie wife
Hot Dog! I love that weenie man (O, Yes I do!)

then the knuckle rap part doesn't have words.

could just be someone made up those lyrics to be silly.

a long long time ago in a land far far away i heard this...
