I agree with this answer. The birth of The Man Who Would Not Be King, and his election to the presidency of the United States are probably the most significant developments in February.
His refusal to serve more than two terms, resonates to this day. By freeing his slaves at the end of his life he acknowledged that slavery was wrong. This so infuriated the other slaveholders that laws were passed to prevent others from following his example.
His warning to his countrymen to stay out of European politics, led to a period of neutrality that help a young country stay alive until it was powerful enough to stand up to the great powers.
His cabinet was the first team of rivals.

While this may not be the most historical event ever, Fidel Castro did become premier of Cuba on Feb 16, 1959. This was significant because because of his (and his countries) major flare-ups with the U.S. government as they fought to battle communism throughout the world.

Lincoln's birthday, very special this year as it is the bicentennial celebration, he was born feb 12 1809, 200 years ago, if this man was not born this country may not exist as we know it, the union may have fell apart, slavery would have continued, a truly great moment in history was the birth of lincoln
