What is the most natural and green way to end dry skin using household items?

I don't want to buy a magic product or any product for that matter.
Tip for best answer: M$0.00

It seems that we are all for olive oil, it has (we are told) some bactericide properties that are not found elsewhere! My family in the south of France used it for dry skin, dry hair and even irritated skin. Use sparingly though. Talc makes the skin feel comfortable, but it is not hydratant (it absorbs the sweat). Some people use mayonnaise (emulsion of a spoon water, 1/2 cup olive oil, 1 egg yolk, of course no salt). An old aunt of mine was fond of masks made of oatmeal and had a beautiful skin. Of course avoid smoking (it does outside to your skin what it does inside to your arteries, you know) and booze.

Olive oil. Goes all the way back to ancient Egypt and is now used in many all natural lines. Inexpensive, very effective and gentle on all skin types.

Olive Oil works well to moisturize dry skin. (You don't need to splurge on expensive extra virgin oil.) If you like, you can add a few drops of an aromatic essential oil, such as lavender, to provide a less culinary fragrance to the oil.

Also use a humidifier. In winter, air gets very dry because it cannot hold as much moisture. A humidifier helps to counteract this.

If you don't want to buy a humidifier, you can always just boil a large pot of water on the stove. Just don't leave it unattended and don't let it dry out.

Also remember to drink lots of water. Bathing or showering in very hot water contributes to moisture loss. Take cooler baths or showers and apply the olive oil immediately after stepping out to retain moisture.

If olive oil is a little too strongly scented, you may like to try canola oil. The critical thing to remember here is that oil goes rancid upon exposure to moisture and light, so if you store it in the bath, replace it frequently. Even before it starts to smell bad, it will become less effective and more unhealthy over time. The best option is to just keep a small amount in the bath, and change it weekly.
