I've got to say that the most innovative instance of crowd sourcing is spammers redirecting Capcha's to be completed by people trying to get access to free porn.
The application: Spammer creates a porn website that requires a captcha to be filled out to gain "free" access, the unsuspecting horn-ball fills it out to get his groove on, and BLAM! the spammer has got a captcha filled out they can use to falsely create accounts on other webistes.
Not that great, fun, or ethical, but very innovative!

M$The best Crowd Sourcing movement on the web is actually one that has been around for a long time and actually helped strength the belief that Crowd Sourcing was a viable option in the technology/internet world. This has to be Linux (love the operating system or hate it you can't deny that without it Open Source, and by default Crowd Sourcing, would not be what it is today).

M$This 'game' involves the arranging of protein molecules into shapes following certain rules. It takes quite a while to 'fold' a protein and is very important in the study of chemistry. Thus far computers have only been able to do an adequate job. They optimize the folding to a point, but often they start going down the wrong path so they don't get as far as they could and tend to get stuck before its fully folded.
People can see a better way to fold a protein than a computer can and the creation of a 3-d game to do it is just brilliant in my mind. Its tackling a problem that really is not solvable by any other means and is ultimately very beneficial to science.
