M$Leave the poor little critters alone, they are just trying to make a go of it in this crazy world without being burnt and stomped on.
That said, I poured lemon juice on some in my kitchen...as they were about to amass an invasion into my pantry. Sigh. I felt bad afterwards.

M$However, when I was, like, six, it didn't seem so bad. We lived in the desert, and someone came up with the idea of using a magnifying glass. You can focus the sun's rays to a white-hot spot, and chase the ants around the sidewalk. Since they have an exoskeleton, they heat up and pop! So the cruelty is somewhat balanced by the scientific curiosity.
But Karma will have its way. Somebody else showed me how to pick up ants with a straw. You blow OUT, and then the ant gets sucked in, barely. But if you suck IN, the ant actually goes all the way up through the straw and into your mouth. In my case, it stung me on the roof of my mouth. I actually had some recurring pain for months, I think. (Not sure, I was still pretty young, and time dilates.
