I think the Snipe Eel is pretty fascinating. Its body is 75 times longer than it is wide, it has a hummingbird-like beak, and its anus is located in its throat. It doesn't even look like a fish. It looks like what might happen if a snake and a hummingbird could produce offspring...

The Indo-Malaysian Mimic Octopus.

A species newly identified in 2005. This species has been observed mimicking a variety of other animals in its environment including a rays, flounder, eel, see snake, jelly fish, and in this photo a kind of star fish species called the sea star. Now that's amazing.

Check out this video too...this is a smart animal!

The Pacific Sea Nettle

Check out this picture I took of one at the Georgia Sea Aquarium. It's one sea creature that constantly changes its size and shape. It's always moving.

Watch the video as well.

What is the difference between those and jellyfish? I can see that there are some kind of difference. Is it just the species?

Wow. What a great question. As a Scuba Instructor, I saw all kinds of cool stuff just in the Gulf of Mexico-Florida Panhandle region. Of all the creatures, there was only one that I saw just one time. I'll always remember it. I was an active dive instructor for 8 years and have been diving for 15 years now, yet I've only ever seen the one.

It was a Mola Mola (Ocean Sunfish) and we were actually on the boat between dives. It came to the surface and swam next to the boat and then was gone..I found out later it was feeding. Their diet consists mostly of Jellyfish and the water was full of them that day..

The ocean sunfish, Mola mola, or common mola, is the heaviest known bony fish in the world. It has an average adult weight of 1,000 kg (2,200 lb). The species is native to tropical and temperate waters around the globe. It resembles a fish head with a tail, and its main body is flattened laterally. Sunfish can be as tall as they are long when their dorsal and ventral fins are extended. Adult Sunfish have few predators, but sharks, orcas, sea lions and Man will all consume them. Yes, Man. They are a delicacy in parts of Asia.

The Great White.

I have always been interested in sharks. Growing up along the Pacific Ocean, I knew how important sharks were to the marine ecosystem.
Even today we know so little about them. How do they court each other and breed? How long to they really live? We are just recently learning that females actually migrate. It was thought that mostly males made this transoceanic trip.

To me, these (top of the food chain) fish are beautiful, majestic and awe inspiring. I am tired of them being labeled as monsters, man eaters and bad guys. If we lose this important part of the marine food chain, it would have devastating effects I can't even begin to imagine.

I have to say Jellyfish as well. Especially the Box Jellyfish, ultra-harmful/deadly animals have always facinated me.
http://kaprice.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/box-jellyfish-large.jpg

The Box Jellyfish also has a tiny cousin that live off the shores of Austrailia thats nearly invisible. Invisible? That makes me wonder what other dangers are out there that I just cant see.

I think the sea cucumber is an awesome if not at least gross creature. Whenever it feels threatened, it can expel it's organs just like it's throwing up. Ewww

I cannot believe no one has mentioned the angler fish yet. They're great because A. They're ugly as sin and B. They actually hunt for their food using a little worm-shaped antenna that hangs from their head.

Have you heard of the Mimic Octopus? Don't really know whether it is considered an ocean creature though. However it is really interesting compared to the other octopuses. Comparatively, most octopuses have the ability to squirt black ink to run away from its predators, but not like the mimic octopus.

Mimic Octopus has the ability to, as the name explains, follow a trait or appearance of another sea creature. For example, a sea snake. A sea snake appears to be long and mostly striped. The mimic octopus curls up one of its legs to make it look like a sea snake is slithering on the sand.

Some cool videos in the source if you wanna find out more.
