There are a number of really expensive cameras. Lets first exclude one of a kind specialty cameras used by NASA and the military since these are not available for general consumption. Lets also exclude antique historical cameras that can also run in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
This leaves us with a small number of production cameras. In 2008 Hasselblad introduced the H3DII-50. N Camera. This camera looks like their famous film cameras, uses the same lenses and has 60 megapixels in resolution. It sells for $37,000. The same year Leaf Digital introduced a new digital camera with 50 megapixels in resolution and sold for $43,675.
