What is the minimum appropriate length for a woman's skirt?

Not at a fancy event or any sort of special occasion or even a job – I just mean a regular everyday skirt worn to the grocery store, to run errands, or to walk down the street in. Does the minimum length that would be appropriate vary, given the female’s age, appearance, or other factors?

It's exactly as you said age, appearance of her legs. I have seen 45 year olds that look better than their young daughter when they are in the grocery store together. Let's leave it at that.

The overall appropriate length of a skirt for a woman is about knee length or even a few inches above the knee. I personally think if a woman has a great figure or great outfit, then she can get away with wearing a shorter skirt, as long as she knows how to wear it. What I mean by that is sometimes it is easy to forget a short skirt is being worn and sometimes others may occasionally receive alternative viewpoint of other areas. Sometimes more can be sexy but not more revealing clothes. Too much of a longer length can be annoying and uncomfortable I just thank goodness that there is such thing as pants (trousers).

There is no minimum for a skirt. This may be proven by observing the skirts worn by traditional ballet dancers. These amount to a frill around the waist. It is physically impossible to be any shorter, that would be a blouse.

What is worn where and when is entirely up to local culture, date, and circumstances. Skirts are much shorter in Britain than the USA, for example. They go up and down over the years with fashion trends. But these days fashions are pretty flexible with a provision for cultural diversity. So, the basic rule above goes: the minimum is the waist.
