What is the Mac equivalent of Microsoft Office?

Is it as good Microsoft Office?
Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I would say the Mac equivalent of Microsoft Office would be Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac.

The Macintosh equivalent for Microsoft Office is the iWork software. The current version is iWork’09. The iWork suite consists of a work processing software (Word equivalent), a spreadsheet processing software (Excel equivalent) and a presentation creation software (PowerPoint equivalent).

The iWork suite is pretty comparable to what Microsoft Office has to offer. However, it all depends on what you mean by being as good as Microsoft Office. If you are only doing basic word processing, spreadsheet and presentation work, the iWork suite will do the job just as well as Microsoft Office would. However, if you need other Office components such as Outlook, you may need to consider buying Microsoft Office for Mac. Some would prefer Keynote to PowerPoint as it offers better quality of graphics, transitions and effects.

If you just need a basic office software, the OpenOffice suite will work just fine, and its free. However, the downside is that is will not have some of the fancy formatting functions that you will find on Microsoft Office or iWork.
