What is the jazz real book?

Tip for best answer: M$1.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

The jazz real book is entitled, The Real Book, which is the essential resource for aspiring and current jazz musicians. The book is for jazz musicians to research and continually review B♭, E♭, and C (concert-pitch) instruments, as well as a bass clef edition. Often, the book is referred to by band leaders by calling out page numbers, as it has becomes such a ubiquitous resource guide. The book contains several passages from jazz greats such as Steve Swallow, Paul Bley, Chick Corea, trumpeter Miles Davis and John Coltrane. The Real Book includes jazz standards and classic jazz compositions as well as how to tutorials.

Since its first publication, there have been several editions of the Real Book for jazz musicians, with additional chapters in each book.
