What is the impact of fasting on health and mind during the month of Ramadan?

Apart from Muslims, who are the other people those also fast according to their own ways?

More than a billion of Muslims around the world began observing the holy month of Ramadan on Wednesday, with the dawn-to-dusk fast. Ramadan is a month for spiritual purification of health and mind - achieved through fasting and prayers. The hardship is not only abstaining from food, drink, sex and cigarettes but also working, participating in prayer and reading the holy Quran.

Ramadan is a month of self-regulation and self-training, with the hope that this training will last beyond the end of Ramadan. If the lessons learned during Ramadan, whether in terms of dietary intake or righteousness, are carried on after Ramadan, it is beneficial for one’s entire life.
The physiological effect of fasting includes lower of blood sugar, lowering of cholesterol and lowering of the systolic blood pressure
There is a peace and tranquility for those who fast during the month of Ramadan. Personal hostility is at a minimum, and the crime rate decreases.
