What is the ideal nap length?

Tip for best answer: M$0.00
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

According to WebMD, 20 minutes is the ideal length for a midday nap. Additionally, a quick nap is better at fending off afternoon fatigue than caffeine or even extra sleep in the morning.

If you sleep over 20 minutes then you enter your regular REM sleep cycle, which will make your tired when you wake up. If you want a great nap, take a caffeine nap--drink a strong dose of caffeine before you take your nap.

The ideal length is what makes you feel refreshed. WebMD mentions that even a 6-minute "mini-nap" can make you feel better, and boost your mental state.
The Insomnia Blog says your nap should be either 20-30 minutes or 90-120 minutes. They also caution that it's important not to nap after 3 p.m., as you might "enter slow wave sleep and wak[e] up groggy."

When I feel tired, especially before going into work(last job, usually had shifts around 1-2ish pm), I basically took a "power nap" which was 30 minutes or less. I woke up feeling great and not as tired as I would have been going into work.

I find that the best naps last anywhere from 3 to 4 hours, especially on a lazy Friday afternoon.
