"One particular theory about the Ark claims that just before the Babylonians invaded Jerusalem in 586 BC, Levitical priests moved the Ark to Egypt to save it from being destroyed. After more than a century there, sequestered on an island in the Nile called "Elephantine Island," it was moved again, all the way up the Nile river to the source of the Blue Nile -- Lake Tana in Ethiopia."
"The belief is that the Ark was hidden on a remote island in the huge lake, where it was cared for by monks in a tent similar to the tabernacle in the wilderness.
The monks living on Tana Kirkos Island have not changed their way of life, or worship, for thousands of years. Even today, they dress in animal skins and live a primitive existence farming the small island. They also spend more than three hours a day in prayer."
"At the end of the day, there was no way to know for certain if the story was true or not. But one thing is for sure: there is no doubt whatsoever in the minds of Ethiopian Christians -- they have the Ark of the Covenant, and they really don't care if the rest of the world believes it or not."
This is another great read on the topic, a travel blog about Axum. . .

M$What points did you believe from the Keeper of the Ark?
I do agree with the Keeper that the government of Ethiopia has cause many evils to fall on the people.
The Ark could not be stolen, long-term, otherwise, the same fate of death, cancer, and destruction would have fallen on the thieves, as did the Philistines.
Kirkos Island had evidence of a tabernacle, brazen bowels, silver long horns, and Levitical sacrifices.
Legend has it, the Ark of Covenant was moved from Kirkos Island to Axum. What is the history of the Ark in Axum? Did you find evidence of an Oblisk in Axum?
Menelik would have been the birthright son of Solomon and legal heir to care for the Ark. Solomon because of Idolatry had defiled the temple and the Ark of Covenant departed with Sheba and Menelik. Is this version of events credible?
From my research there is lot of places where the Ark of the Covenant could be and most of them are wrong. This site should give you more insight as to what happened to the ark.(http://100777.com/ark/arkmovie) . Now for the events that took place with Sheba and Solomon i would not doubt that it happened. Sheba from all acounts was a beautiful woman and most likely Solomon was besotted with her beauty. Like any man he would have put himself in a position to mate her. The son going to see his father would be a given. But from accounts Sheba did not go with her son. And besides the Ark Of The Covenant returning back to Ethiopia by Menelik I find it hard to believe. Reason this container was very powerful and only the priests where allowed to carry it please read this site the link will provide you with more understanding about the Ark here is the link http://www.plim.org/arkofcovenant.html)
Only the Levites, dressed in special clothes could prepare and handle the Ark. The Ark had tremendous power and sparks that could kill. One non-Levite thought to steady the Ark, as it tipped, and was killed. It would be presumptuous to assume that the Ark was not powerful. The Ark had authority and to invade that authority meant, death. One theory was the Ark was a super capacitor which could be discharged by the High Priest.
