To find the true history of Florentines I had to do a little translating. The actual page was in french. Florentines were not created Austria and are not named after the city Florence, Italy as implied above.
They were invented in Paris, France in honor of visiting nobility from Florence. The cookies were named in honor of the King's "Florentine" guests. I don't have an exact date but from the King at the time rule and the location this occurred between 1682 to 1715.
