What is the highest tip ever given at a restaurant?

Tip for best answer: M$0.18
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

I remember reading back in 2007 of a waitress at Pizza Hut who got a $10,000 tip.

But the biggest tip story has to go to Phyllis Penzo who was a waitress at Sal's Kitchen in Yonkers, NY. Robert Cunningham was police detective and regular there offered her half interest in a lottery ticket. They each picked 3 of the 6 numbers. Her tip worked out to be $142,857.50 for twenty years. The movie It Could Happen to You is based on their story.

The largest tip I ever gave was $300.00. It was of course for a dinner that had about 25 people and many rolling courses. We had 5 waaitresses and a private bartender so they actually had to split it.

Regardless of if it's a restaurant or salon, if I have a coupon, or they have a special, I normally pass that 'savings' on to the person who served me. Say it was a $10 meal or $20 hair cut at 50% off. Instead of tipping 15-20%, I leave the other half of the cost to the person who served me. So $5 to the server for 15 minutes of her time and $10 the the person who cut my hair.

I don't eat out or get my hair cut a lot, so I think the most I've ever tipped is $12 (more than my hourly wage).

You still are a generous and kindhearted tipper. You get brownie points for that!

Thank you, that is much appreciated. Yeah, I was a server at one point and time. Sometimes tips were great, once I made $100 one night. Other nights tips were crappy. You'd be lucky to leave with $30. So I feel their pain.
