The General George S. Patton Memorial Center was established to honor the late Gen. George S. Patton including those thousands of men who served with him at the Desert Training Center and overseas. The museum can be found at Interstate 10 about 30 miles east of Indio at Chiriaco Summit. Joseph Chiriaco donated the are and was one of the first area residents whom Gen. Patton met upon his arrival at the centers.
It displays memorabilia from the life and career of Gen. Patton. You can also see the many and varied aspects of military life with particular focus on the Desert Training Center and the soldiers of World War II.
When Gen. Patton started operating the Desert Training Center, he knew only a little about he desert and ask for help from Roy Chapman Andrews who is an explorer who has made several expedition in the Gobi Desert.
In spite of Gen. Patton's harshness of manners and hardships in which he subjected them, hist troops respected, admired and love him.
