What is the Fur Rendezvous in Anchorage, Alaska?
My friend said it was funny. Some sort of carnival on skis? Where can I find more proper information about this Fur Rendezvous? Is there a website?

The annual Fur Rendezvous, aka the Fur Rondy is a 10 day celebration of Alaskan living. The 2011 Fur Rondy will be held from Feb. 25 until March 6, 2011. The celebration dates back to 1935 when a three day festival was arranged coinciding with the end of the hunting and trapping seasons. The festival provided was a way for people to trade and barter for furs and skins of the trapped animals. The original event included outdoor sport competitions including hockey, and a kid's dog sled race. Local art exhibits were on display, as well as the catch of the numerous hunters and trappers. With little to do in Anchorage in the '30s, the event was well received and has grown into the 10 day event that it is today. Today people from all over the world go to Anchorage for the celebration. Some of the events, besides a fur auction, include a snowshoe baseball game, an outhouse race, running of the reindeer, and a poker tournament among other fun outdoor activities.
